Caving Caving or equipment you need to explore abandoned mines or caves, dry desert?
Two months ago during a desert trip range with my friends we have found a cave that turned out to be an old mine. I've always wanted to be yielding / caving, but back in Orange County is not simply no caves to do that. I am planning a trip there on my birthday in a few weeks, what kind of equipment should I bring? Its in the desert near the city Calico Ghost (California), very little heat, so I will bring tons of water. I will also boots (work boots, hiking shoes are not) by the rough terrain, I'll have some helmets in case of falling rocks, and plenty of light sources. What else do I need? I, 'm also wondering about the safety, What are the common risks associated with the exploration of caves or mines? My cell phone does not work in that area (above ground) so I would like know what risks there might be, so you can prepare for them.
Upon entering caves and old mines can be very dangerous. It is good that you have considered the security issues.I not recommend going alone in any case without a professional guide of some sort. One false move can send to your death. These old mines were dangerous 100 years ago so "are more dangerous now. There are plenty of others, cave tours can go ahead and have a time of great adventure. I do not think its a good idea to go in an old mine. Good luck.
